New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation and Treatment (120 minutes)
The appointment includes a detailed review of your current and past health conditions, pulse diagnosis and other physical evaluations such as tongue or abdominal diagnosis, as necessary to complete a comprehensive treatment plan. The evaluation will be followed by your initial acupuncture treatment.
Follow-Up Treatment (45-60 minutes)
This treatment option is for established patients. I will consult with you and conduct shortened diagnostic procedures such as pulse or tongue evaluation to determine treatment progress and make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed. Services rendered during follow-up treatments might include any of the following modalities: acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha (press-stroking therapy), application of essential oils, and East Asian-based manual therapies.
In Chinese medicine, herbs are prescribed based on findings specific to each individual patient. There is generally no one herbal formula used to treat each Western diagnosis or symptom. Rather, herbal formulas are based on the patient’s overall ecological pattern. Therefore, a comprehensive intake, including tongue and pulse diagnosis is required to determine the correct treatment plan for each patient.
All acupuncture patients who have had a comprehensive evaluation are given the option to address their health concerns using Chinese herbal medicine as well as acupuncture. Patients who want to take herbs have the choice of patent formulas (in the form of capsules, tablets, or liquid tinctures) or, often for more complex cases, custom granule formulas (powdered herbs made into a tea by adding hot water). All herbs not kept in stock are ordered as needed from a distributor in the U.S. Once the right herbs are selected, they will be ordered and shipped directly to the patient’s home. Turn-around time from order to receipt of herbs is generally just a few days.
The cost of herbs varies, and is not billable to insurance. Some plans allow patients to charge herbs to their HSA account. Please speak with your plan administrator for details.
I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna Health Management, and United Healthcare, and will submit claims on your behalf directly to these insurers if your health plan includes acupuncture benefits. I will help you determine what your acupuncture benefits are and whether there are condition or visit limitations. You will be responsible for paying your deductible or co-pay / co-insurance at the time of service.
Additionally, if you believe you have acupuncture benefits with an out-of-network insurer, I will provide you with a coded super-bill so that you can seek reimbursement; but I am unable to verify benefits for these plans, so you must do this yourself. You will be responsible for paying the full fee at the time of service, and will receive an out of network reimbursement check from your insurer for their allowable amount.
Time of Service Fees
Patients who are not using in-network insurance coverage should expect the following fees for service:
- New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation and Treatment: $212.50
- New Patient Comprehensive Evaluation Only: $127.50
- Follow-Up Treatment: $85

All time of service fees must be paid promptly in the office. All discount packages must be paid for at or before the first session. I accept cash, checks, Mastercard, and Visa.
All appointment cancellations and re-scheduling must be done with 24 hours notice, except in cases of genuine emergency or illness. Missed appointments or cancellations without proper notice are subject to a $35 cancelation fee. These fees cannot be billed to your insurance company.
